Books and Movies that Deserve to be Mentioned

Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok

MDLR is based on Norse mythology (although they screwed a few things up, which I will list in a moment) and has Loki as the main character. As you can probably guess from the fact that a villain is the main character, it is also written from Loki's point of view, therefore the "good guys" from Norse mythology (Odin, Heimdall, The Norns, etc.) are the "bad guys" in MDLR. And of course, that makes the "bad guys" from Norse mythology (Loki, the Midgard Serpent, Fenrir) the "good guys" in MDLR. Know what I mean? Anyway, the plot of MDLR -
In an attempt to avoid the Ragnarok (the end of the world), Odin, the king of gods, banishes Loki from Asgard and sends him to Earth in the body of a child with very limited powers (although Loki doesn't know the reason for his banishment until much later). Loki also somehow manages to bring his son, the giant serpent Midgardsormr, to Earth disguised as his human assistant, Yamino. Once on Earth, Loki starts a detective agency, which is how he meets a high school girl named Mayura who has a fetish for all things supernatural. Eventually, Mayura becomes Loki's assistant as well (although she really just gets int he way most of the time). Meanwhile, Odin sends god after god to Earth with the same mission - to kill Loki. Loki finds himself constantly fighting against Odin's assassins with the help of his allies, trying to return to Asgard and run a detective agency all at the same time.
Things in MDLR that contradicted Norse mythology:
1. What, exactly, Frey is god of. In the actual mythology, Frey is the god of fertility, while his sister Freya is the goddess of love and beauty. MDLR states Freya to be the goddess of fertility as well, and never really mentions much about what Frey is the god of.
2. Thor's help. In MDLR, Thor is one of Loki's allies. This isn't completely inaccurate, as Thor brought Loki along on most of his exploits in Norse myths, although you wouldn't say they were friends, and Thor was most certiantly never fond of Loki's children. In fact, Thor and Midgardsormr killed eachother during the Ragnarok battle and fought on a few other occasions.
3. Freya's personality. In Norse myths, Freya was once married, but her husband disappeared and never returned. She searched for him daily and cried herself to sleep - she was not interested in ever marrying another god.
4. The fact that Loki isn't chained to a rock with snakes and enduring constant torture. Until the day of the Ragnarok, when his chains broke loose, this was how the Aesir gods punished him for murdering Balder. It's highly doubtful that Odin would unchain him and send him to Earth instead.

Princess Tutu

Princess Tutu is, long story short, about a duck who turns into a girl, who turns into a ballerina-superhero thing named Princess Tutu.
Normally, I would now give alot more information about this anime, but my local library happens to have this handy-dandy preview on their website, and I'm lazy. So here ya go. And no, Fakir and Rue aren't the same person. Because of the fact that they both have dark hair and this preview has horrible quality, it took me five minutes of going "What the heck!?" to figure that out.

Tokyo Mew Mew

This is a weird manga about genetically-egineered 13-year-old superheroes (Although Zakuro is obviously older) fighting aliens who are using these...weird jellyfish-looking things to make animals turn against humans and destroy the human race, so they can take over the planet. I've never watched the anime, but from what I've heard, it's different from the manga. I wouldn't recommend it unless you like really hyper, energetic, colorful, girly, cutesy weird stuff.

Maximum Ride

Maximum Ride is about six genetically-engineered kids who all have %2 bird DNA, which is why they have wings. Maximum Ride (Max for short) is also the name of the main character, who is the leader of "The Flock". The rest of the Flock are Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gazzy, Angel and...I guess Total counts as a member. The plot of the first book is simple: The Flock living on their own, constantly running away from Erasers (Human-lupine hybrid gaurds from "The School", the lab where The Flock escaped from) and trying to rescue Angel from The School again. Maximum Ride is also an awesome character, because she's not a helpless idiot, which seems to be a sad trend in female characters nowadays.

Erratum

Erratum is about twelve-year-old Jessica Sternhagen, who sees a new bookstore one day and decides to go inside. She discovers a book titled Her Lif, and starts reading it. The book is the entire story of Jessica's life, without a single detail missing, and it ends with her murder. As soon as she puts the book down, the owner of the store comes in with a knife, just as Her Lif had predicted. Jessica escapes being murdered, and then discovers that she's supposed to save the universe from being destroyed.

The Boy Who Could Fly

The Boy Who Could Fly is about Michael, an orphan living a miserable life in the "Great House". He meets the Loblolly Boy, a boy with wings who promises to teach Michael to fly. He flaps his arms and jumps into the air, only to find the ground - and his life - left behind. Michael has become the Loblolly Boy. Although he escapes the Great House and learns to fly, he loses contact with all other humans and anything else from the real world. With the help of two girls and a captian who, for some reason, can see him, the Loblolly Boy must escape from a "Collector".
